Here Is The Deal

Ok- Tomorrow morning, I am leaving for NC and VA for 6 days. So, I am going to put the blog on hiatus until I get back. The shop is also closed.

Arrange and Rearrange-

I have decided that my little studio needs a serious overhaul. Unfortunately, in about 7 months, we plan to put our house on the market. So, obviously, it is not worth the money to actually do that.

Like a lot of artists, I have a lot of stuff, and very little space for it. I am going to have to start the 27 Fling Boogie again. I imagine that like every time in the past, if I do actually start on it, I will probably end up spending days trying to get it arranged to my liking.

Thinking about this has lead me to think about my dream studio. If money were no object, I would love to have a gigantic room- maybe 60 x 60- or even bigger! I would have no carpet anywhere in it. I would have one entire wall of windows (and someone to clean those windows!) I will have one entire wall of peg board and shelving. I want big work surfaces... at least 5x5 foot tables probably more like 5 x 10. I want to have work zones for my different major media. I want tons of light, bright cheery colors on the wall, and an awesome cooling system to keep all of that light from making the studio so hot! I am not yet sure what the answer is, but I would have some super fantastic way to keep all of my stock well displayed, easily accessible, but simple to pack up for a show!

I could go on dreaming about this all day. But that is really not a productive use of my time!

I keep a dream house book. It is where I write down, sketch, or tape a picture of anything I see that I like, imagine, or just really want. Once upon a time, I had a 4 inch binder full of these ideas, but that book was "lost" in our move to Charleston. I have started a new one. I think I am going to have to give my dream studio it's own chapter in the book!

I'm Back (Again!)

I have decided to revamp my daily plans here. As anyone that knows me can tell you, I am an ADHD kid. Looking back over my last couple of weeks of posts, I think it was pretty clear that I was trying to bust through the boredom of the hole I had put myself in. I am not sure yet what the daily plan will be. I know that it obviously needs to still have some structure, but I am going to try to make it a little less concrete... with a little more room for fun!

As for where I have been for the last week? My friends will tell you that I have been absent from everywhere lately! I got chastised by a childhood friend for going 5 days without posting an update on facebook this weekend! I live in Charleston, SC. Besides just being in the hot south, we are also close to the coast... this makes for some bizarre weather sometimes. For the last 2 weeks we have had some huge storms, with lots of power outages and other various strikes. Yesterday, I got a new computer. Hopefully, this new computer will be the end of the problems for a while.

On the note of the new computer- now I need to pay for it! So get on over to the JUBILLIE SHOP and buy something!

On another note- I have a show this weekend. It is actually part of a Conway, SC July 4th celebration. Why, you may ask, is the 4th of July celebration a week before the actual 4th of July? The answer is... I have no idea. Especially since the actual 4th of July happens to fall on a Saturday this year! However... The have an artisans market, and I will be one of 20 or so vendors there that day. If you are in the Conway or Myrtle Beach area, come by and see me! Thursday- 6-11-09

Well, the blog has been awfully discombobulated this week. Next week, I will do my best to get back on track.

I have a couple of things I wanted to touch on today.

First- there is an upcoming sale that I am taking part in. They month of July will be Christmas In July for the South Carolina Street Team on Etsy. When you are shopping in July, please enter TEAMSC or XIJ into the search to find sellers taking part in the sale.

Second- On June 27th I will be a seller at Riverfest in Conway, SC. I am really excited about that. I think I am one of 20 or so art / craft vendors that will be there during the festival. There will be lots of bands and activities from 3 pm - 11 pm. Come out for a visit if you are in the area!

Third- Search TEAMSC any time on Etsy to find items by great sellers all over South Carolina!

I am leaving town again tomorrow morning. It is family reunion weekend, and there is so much going on. My nephew is graduating from West Brunswick High School on Saturday. Our family is having a birthday party for the 6 people in our family that have birthdays in the first half of the year. Then Sunday we will be going to the family reunion! Big happenings this weekend. I will be checking emails and convos when I get a chance! Let me know if you need anything.

My Favorite Tuesday

I hope everyone had a great weekend! I was, of course, out of town. The main purpose for the trip was to attend the bridal shower for a childhood friend. My sister and I took off Friday evening on a 6+ hour drive and had a blast all weekend. We visited with several friends throughout the weekend, wrapping up the trip on Sunday at the shower. Our drive home seemed endless at times, but we made it through...

On Tuesdays I generally feature some new (or old) favorite item of mine. But, since I have been away for a few days, I do not have anything new posted. But, I wanted to share this "Made For Me" product that I came across at Target. It is a lock... only, no numbers! Perfect for me!

Etsy Findings Day

My husband says that I am the Captain of the Grammar Police. I think, in reality, he says that because I correct him. A lot. It is a bad habit that I have, and one that I am constantly working to back off of. But, in my defense, he uses a lot of "words" that don't really exist. And it irritates me! So, I guess that is what makes me the Grammar Police.

So, when I was browsing through Etsy last night, I came across this little gem from Etsy seller KingDog. This bag is a constant reminder of grammar! My kind of bag!

And as for the weekend, tonight I'm looking forward to _SEEING MY MOM AND SISTERS AT FAMILY GIRLS WEEKEND____, tomorrow my plans include _SITTING ON THE BEACH AND DRINKING MARGARITAS AND PINA COLADAS____ and Sunday, I want to _MAKE VACATION LAST ONE MORE DAY____! (A weekend at the beach with my mom and sisters. No husbands, no children, no dogs. What ever will we do with our time? Oh yeah, sit on the beach and drink margaritas and pina coladas!)

My Favorite Tuesday

Well, today is supposed to be a favorite one of my items. But since I skipped yesterday when I decided at the last minute to spend an extra day out of town, and there is nothing new in the store since I was out of town, I am going to share another favorite product on Etsy. 

This is just the coolest calendar. Just rearrange the numbers each month, and voila... no more paper calendar! I, for one, hate all of the paper around our  house. What a great way to eliminate paper on the wall!  Plus, when something is going on, just magnet it to the right day!

Blog I Like Friday

I know. I know. I am not yet a parent. So, this choice as a blog might seem strange. On another note, I chose this particular blog for two reasons. Even though I am not a parent, I am a former pre-school teacher and an aunt to an awesome teenager and a kindergartner and a preschooler. I am always on the hunt for cool things for my nieces and nephew, and this blog helps. On Wednesdays, I will present you with an item on Etsy that I like from another seller. These could be anything at all, so be sure to look out for great items!

I will either offer free shipping across the board on Thursdays, by providing a code for you to enter, or I will offer free shipping on a specific item. These codes will be good for until midnight on Thursdays. As long as the item is purchased and paid for before midnight, the shipping costs will be refunded within 24 hours, usually within an hour.

Recall Morning- and How I Overcame It

There was a time in my life when I was one of those super perky morning people. The older I get, the later my mornings start, and the less perky they are! So, being woken up at 5:00 in the morning  by a Lieutenant initiating a recall did not make me happy. A call a few minutes later while my husband was in the shower, pretty much locked in the fact that I was up for the day. When I was coming out of the bathroom, the phone rang for the third time. All of these calls came before 5:30! My husband's alarm actually goes off at 5:30, but for someone who usually sleeps until 7:30 or 8, this is just torture. 

Instead of letting it get me angry like it has in the  past, I realized that this is an area in my life that I need to improve. Perhaps being so tired, I was not awake enough for the adrenaline to run through yet. I don't know. This morning I had to remind myself all 3 times that the purpose of the recall is to make sure that in case of an emergency, everyone in my husband's Squadron, or the entire base, if need be, can be contacted and can quickly return to base. It is a practice. Like all the years of sports that I played. Or practicing for a swim meet, or a horse show. 

I decided this morning to make a military support pendant to help remind me of why my husband  is in the military, and why these early morning calls should make me proud to be his wife, rather than angry at the early rising. 

It turned out a bit bigger than I intended, because of my lack of small yellow beads. I am going to change that though... yellow is now on my shopping list.  It is actually almost 5 inches tall... perhaps something better hung in a window that on my neck? 

I will not be posting it on Jubillie unless someone just sees it here and wants it. This was really more an exercise for me.     

Last Day- and Some Good News

It is supposed to be the last day for the giveaway below. I am going to extend it until this Friday- April 3rd.  I have been ill, and have not spent much time advertising it. 

Now for the fun stuff- I am going to be a jewelry vendor at a pageant at the end of April. I am super nervous about it, but really excited. I am trying to make at least 5 new pieces of jewelry a day to build up my inventory for it. With any luck, I will sell it all! :) I got very intimidated by the thought at first... I didn't feel like I had enough glitzy glammy stuff for pageantry... then I was reminded that pageant participants are not in full formal wear every day. I felt like such an idiot! :) Now, however, I am excited and working on my display system, and looking forward to the big day!

Back on Track

While yesterday was a little better, today, I feel more like ME. I have to take my beagle to the vet today. His poor little feet were so neglected by his previous owner, that he has chronic problems. 

Yesterday I knocked out 18 new pieces of jewelry. More than half of the new pieces were earrings. They are usually pretty easy, and quick... big bang for less effort. My inventory needs to be built up, so that is a good starting point!

Off to the vet!

Feeling Human

Hey everyone. So, I have been experiencing, what I think is the flu. But, I am finally starting to feel human again! Yay!

Today is my little sister's birthday.  I would like to wish her the very best happiest birthday ever! 

I am uploading my princesses to my shop today. Check them out here.  I actually only have three to start, but there are more on the way. Eventually, I will seperate the jewelry from everything else. But, for now, they will just have to be together!

Fairy Paintings

In the next day or so, I will be posting some new items on Jubillie. I have some fairy princess art. These pieces are multi-media, and super cute and sparkly. I need to take pictures when the light is right, then they will be up. Keep a look out for them!

Portraits are Finished!

So, today, my wonderful awesome friend, Thia took me to the beach for my photos.  She is a wonderful photographer, and I am really looking forward to seeing how the pictures turned out. I will be posting them tomorrow once I go get the disk. 

I never intended to have my wedding dress cleaned and boxed up. I have always just thought that I would cut it apart to make things, for my future children, such as a baby blanket, pillow, purse, or even a fancy dress for a daughter.  So, in the name of NOT preserving my dress, we did "Trash the Dress."  I took off running into the ocean in my wedding dress... 

The water was certainly not warm enough for me to go all the way in, but it was so much fun! It is such a me thing to do. My husband, B, always laughs at me on the beach, because I will randomly take off running for a minute or two... something about the beach just does that to me. 

So... look forward to the pictures soon! 

Bad Night

I had a bad night last night. I was sleepy, but my body refused to cooperate. I spent about 4 hours working at ChaCha, then played in the Etsy chat rooms for a bit. I finally gave up and hit the bed again around 4:15, where I watched the second half of Knocked Up, before finally falling asleep... only to wake up when B's alarm went off an hour later. 

This morning I have been taking more pictures for my site. Please check out my stuff!! 

But, for now, I need a nap!

I have taken a few days off from making stock for my store, from blogging, and from ChaCha-ing while we have had some company.

"Quotation Marks"

While looking around today for some fresh ideas, I followed a suggestion on Twitter to check out the "Blog" of "Unnecessary" Quotation Marks.  People are snapping pictures all over the country of signs where quotation marks are seriously misused. 

This site is great for people like me. I have been accused of being the Captain of the Grammar Police.  

Sick...

Weddings and Things...

There is a lot of wedding talk lately around here. Both my sister and I have a few weddings to attend this year. Yesterday my cousin and I went to David's Bridal for her to try on dresses for when she is the maid of honor in an upcoming wedding. 

I am going to attempt to do a wedding portrait this weekend. I have been married almost 3 years, but never succeeded in getting one... so, we are trying again. This is me on my wedding day with 3 of my bride's maids:

I wish I had known about Etsy when I was wedding planning. If so, I might have scored something like this bracelet, from seller Lazy Angel, back then!! I love it!

Frustrated

This morning I woke up a little frustrated. I had 2 sales on my Etsy site, and then nothing. I am starting to doubt myself, and the wisdom of this plan of mine! I am hoping that this feeling is just because I had a bad night of sleep. I will revisit this thought tomorrow. I am spending my last day with my cousin before she leaves... tomorrow I will get back to actively pushing the site, and trying to make it publicly findable! The Captian says...

Yesterday, my cousin April came to visit. We took her to downtown Charleston for dinner. We ended up walking around the Market Street area, and wandered into the early (8-9 pm) bar scene. There was not too much going on, obviously. It has been a few years since I have been remotely active on the bar scene... but even I know that 8 is a bit early for anything good to happen! 

We were just sitting and talking, and laughing a little at the only thing going on... a couple of girls who had probably been drinking since noon... they were dancing around all over the place and drawing a lot of attention. 

All of a sudden, April announces that there is a Pirate in the bar. Good old Captain Morgan had come to Charleston. 

My New Favorite Piece

Earlier this week, on www.jubillie.etsy.com , I sold my favorite piece that I currently had listed. This morning, I woke up with a new favorite. You can click on the picture to go see it!

I called this piece my Down Town Brown Necklace, because it really reminded me of when I used to go downtown with my friend Heather and my sister Chris.  I miss those days... though, when I really think about it, I think what I really miss is being able to hang out with my friends.  That is why this piece made me happy... it reminded me of the old days! 

New Etsy Experience

Last night I had my first experience chatting in the Etsy chat rooms. I have to say, it was a little hard to follow... but I haven't spent time in a chat room at all since I met my husband, and I think it is something I will just have to get used to. 

However, I was able to find a few items that I fell in love with.

I am an Air Force Wife.

I am an Air Force Wife. My husband grew up in a military family. He has now served over 18 years in the US Air Force. When I was younger I never dreamed in a million years that I would marry someone in the military. It was way to regimented a lifestyle for me to even consider getting involved with! Don't you know that I went and married one anyway! But, it was the best move I ever made. 

Though, the military does put a different kind of stress on our lives that other marriages can't comprehend. In the end, I think that also makes ours stronger, on a different level. The hardest thing I have ever had to do in my life was to watch my husband walk away to get on a plane for his first deployment in our marriage. I had a hard time handling that. However, like so many other trials in my life, with the help of my family and friends, i was able to deal. My husband came home safe. Thankfully, so far he has been home since then!

I am so proud to be an Air Force Wife. In a couple of years I will be the wife of an Air Force retiree. I can't help but wonder what new things we will encounter once we are back in the civilian world!

Recently, I was given the opportunity to pursue my art on a full time basis. I do not know if it will ever become a means to a full time type of income. However, while I have the opportunity to do it, I intend to make the most out of it. You can find my jewelry and other work on Etsy at www.jubillie.etsy.com .

Here in my blog, you are likely to find little snippets about my work. Hopefully, I will be able to share the processes that get me to my final product, and the journeys I take along the way to get there.
